There's your exemption. Any legitimate group(s) that would ever think of a government overthrow wouldn't do it just because they were bored or wanted all the power. Their goal or objective would be Freedom and Liberty. Overthrowing the Government would just be a necessary part of that overall goal. So under that basis, you don't have to do shit.

Prosecute for what, freedom of speech? This is not targeted towards foreign groups, it's targeted towards Americans.

Yes, I did read the Act. This section is telling us how we should interpret this Act, instead of us analyzing it for ourselves. I see that it worked in your case. This is what's called doublespeak.
As citizens of the U.S., we automatically have the the freedom of speech and do not have to register for it.

Who said anything about registering for freedom of speech?

I find it very interesting that you have already resulted in back handed comments instead of discussing facts about what is written in the act.

No on has "told" me how to interpret the act. No block of text has swayed my understanding of it.

If anyone is reading in to things, it's those people who read this and immediately scream "I have freedom of Speech" without reading the whole act and understanding what it is.

Simply put, this act is saying that if your goal is to Overthrow the United States Government you have to register with the Secretary of State or you can be prosecuted.

It does not say that you can not have this goal. It does not say that you can not speak about Overthrowing the Government. In fact, it does not bar you from doing anything at all.

Now, all that being said, have I once stated that I agree with any of this?

According to this Act, can I go to South Carolina and publicly speak about overthrowing the government without possibly facing jail time?

Edit: To clarify, I would join a group consisting of two or more people while not being registered in the anti-free speech database.
